We don’t often talk about bishonen anime here, and it’s time to change that. Pretty anime boys in epic mythological tales can be great, even for those who prefer bishojo. The Demon Prince of Momochi House (Momochi-san Chi no Ayakashi Ouji) is a tale about an orphan girl who goes to her family estate only to meet three attractive men with supernatural gifts. We’ll see how these people get along when the series premieres on January 5th, 2024. Until then, let’s enjoy the new trailer.
Aya Shouoto released her The Demon Prince of Momochi House manga series from February 23rd, 2013, to August 24th, 2019. Kadokawa Shoten released all sixteen volumes in Asuka magazine.
Our bishojo and two of her bishonen are as follows:
- Himari Momochi — Natsumi Kawaida (Seethia in Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury). She is an orphan girl who arrives to take her family’s inheritance. Her inheritance now includes three pretty anime boys.
- Aoi Nanamori — Takeo Otsuka (Aquamarine Hoshino in Oshi no Ko). He broke into the Momochi estate at ten years old, and it forced him to become its new guardian.
- Yukari — Shinnosuke Tachibana (Kashou Minaduki in Nekopara). A shikigami who takes the form of a Mizuchi. He was once a human, but suspicion led to his untimely demise. The dragon god Ryujin took pity on him and gave him a new life.

Bishonen in Mythology
The Demon Prince of Momochi House is a shojo series, so it’s targeted at girls. There’s one main female character, and she’s surrounded by attractive boys. This ideal scenario for romance and tragic love is set in a mythological setting, where the gods of old are very much alive and active in the world. An iconic example of this theme is Fruits Basket, wherein the pretty anime boys with mystical powers surround a cute anime girl.
Even Sailor Moon, mostly cute anime girls with comparatively fewer pretty anime boys, has a mythology theme. There are examples of native Japanese spirits in the series that relate to planetary stuff. And I don’t just mean the Sailor Guardians and their celestial bodies. Natsume’s Book of Friends and Sugar Apple Fairy fit this genre, too. Fans of pretty anime boys in a mythology setting will have much to enjoy with The Demon Prince of Momochi House.
Squatters on the Precipice of the Spirit World
The Demon Prince of Momochi House follows Himari, the heir to the Momochi legacy, and Aoi, Yukari, and Ise, the three guys who accidentally stole it. Himari was orphaned at a young age, and she has no idea of her heritage. She came face-to-face with it when she received a letter on her sixteenth birthday. This orphan has inherited the mysterious Momochi estate, which includes a historic manor. Despite the warnings, Himari heads directly to her new home. It’s not like she has other options because she was raised in an orphanage.
Rumors said the Momochi estate was haunted, so it must be avoided. However, Himari only found three squatters in her new home: the apparent leader, Aoi, and his two friends, Yukari and Ise. They, too, explicitly warn her of spirits and curses and demand that she leave. Himari ignored their warnings and declared that she would make them instead. Soon enough, the truth came out. Dangerous beings appeared from the spirit world, and the three freeloaders employed their magic to fight. Himari learned of their circumstances and hereafter promised to help them.
