Happy 29th birthday to Japanese seiyu Rie Takahashi! In today’s post let’s look at the top-ranked roles by the beloved voice actress and try to decide which one is her best!
Happy Birthday to Rie Takahashi!
Rie Takahashi was born on February 27, 1994, in Saitama Prefecture, making her only two years older than J-List. Growing up, she wanted to be a singer, but when she watched the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni horror anime she was impressed with the intense voice work done by Satoko Hojo seiyu Mika Kanai and began imagining herself working in the voice actor field instead.
In high school, she was a member of the school’s broadcasting club, so she got a lot of time in front of a microphone. After graduating from high school, she joined 81 Actor’s Studio, a voice training school run by the 81 Produce talent agency, which hired her when she started to work professionally. Her first leading role was Sore ga Seiyu!, about young voice actors learning the ropes in the industry.
What’s Rie Takahashi’s secret for doing such great voice work? She has said she always eats her character’s favorite food before working. Or maybe it’s because she often dresses up as her characters?
Outside of her voice acting work, Rie’s main hobby seems to be enjoying shotacon manga and anime, which really makes us view her work as Lilith in The Maid I Hired Recently is Mysterious in a new light.
Who’s Your Favorite Character Rie Voices?
Let’s review the nine most popular seiyu roles by Rie Takahashi, as ranked on MAL! Potential spoiler warning below!
(For best results, listen to the embedded Youtube videos below with headphones on!)
Megumin from Konosuba. Of course, the most popular character voiced by Rie has to be Megumin, who everyone on the planet seems to love. She causes an explosion in our hearts!
Emilia from Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World-. Another hugely popular role is her seiyu work as Emilia, making the character seem so pure-hearted, we start to believe a girl can get pregnant by kissing.

Takagi-san from Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san. My own personal favorite Rie Takahashi character, Takagi-san is in love with Nishikata and teases him all day to get him to look at her properly. The fact that she goes from pure girl to canon MILF makes the series even more fun to watch.
Sumi Sakurasawa from Rent a Girlfriend. Although a lot of fans hate this show because of the annoying main character, who they always describe with the word “simp,” I think we can all agree that Sumi-chan is Best Girl.
Who are the best characters voiced by Yui Horie? Or Rie Kugmiya? Or Kana Hanazawa? Read the sister posts to this one!
Mash Kyrielight from Fate/Grand Order. Another standout character voiced by Rie Takahashi, we would all love to have a cute girl like her call us senpai.
Tomo Aizawa from Tomo-chan is a Girl. Another amazing role voiced by Rie is the boyish Tomo-chan, who just wants her childhood friend Junichiro to view her as a potential romantic partner instead of his “best bud.”
Ena Saitou from Yuru Camp. The uber-relaxing anime about camping in the winter warmed the hearts of fans, and got many interested in camping. Ena-chan is a super chill side character and owner of chihuahua Chikuwa.
Did you watch the Yuru Camp movie? You totally should! Read my review of it here!
Lilith from The Maid I Hired Recently is Mysterious. The story of a dark-skinned and sexy maid living with Master, who’s a young boy, is super cute. I can imagine Rie herself fighting to get this role, because of her love of shota stories.
Futaba Ichinose from Sore ga Seiyu! Finally, a really fun “meta” anime about two young seiyu tamago — or “egg,” what an up-and-coming star is called — this anime is unique in that famous voice actresses like Yui Horie, Rie Kugimiya and Masako Nozawa (the voice of Son Gokuh) all appear in the show as themselves in animated form. So basically Rie’s first major anime role was as a character getting help and advice from Japan’s most famous veteran voice actors.
Bonus Rie Takahashi role! She also provides the voice of Hu Tao in the Japanese dub of Genshin Impact. Does this make you want to play the game in Japanese?
