When we started J-List’s sister company J18 Publishing, we wanted to bring the best hentai doujinshi, full-sized tankoubon format manga and artbooks from Japan’s top artists to everyone, fully translated and in 100% uncensored form. But we had a goal beyond that: to prove that our business model was viable, so we could one day work with our favorite artist ever, Kantoku. I’m happy to say that this day has come, and the Art of Kantoku artbook is more gorgeous than we could have thought possible!
We release the artbooks at Anime Expo ’22, where it was a smash hit, selling out despite the fact that we had brought several hundred copies with us. In this blog post, we’ll give you lots of details on both artbooks, allowing you to decide whether you should add them to your anime artbook collection. (Spoilers: you should.)

What’s Inside the Art of Kantoku Artbooks?
First of all, the’s not a single hardcover artbook, but two, enclosed in a protective printed box, which contains original art created for us by the artist. The first book is 228 pages of gorgeous art by Kantoku, presenting all his best works from 2007 to 2019, and it’s gorgeous to look at. Another important feature is that the books are printed with a special stitched binding that lets you open each page flat, without a huge curved binding to distract you.

Details of the Character Collection Artbook
In addition to the main artbook, you get a separate 100-page Kantoku Character Collection hardcover book, a separate book that tracks all the characters Kantoku has created over the past 13 years! It’s great to get details on each character, along with translated commentary by the artist about what each character meant to him as he was creating her.
