Kyoto Animation Begins Discussions With Victims’ Families

It’s hard to believe that it’s been over two years since the Kyoto Animation arson attack which left over 30 talented individuals dead. For a “nice” change of pace, however, we’re not here to talk about any kind of updates regarding the alleged arsonist Shinji Aoba, but rather the aftermath at Kyoto Animation and their plans for the future.

Kyoto Animation Crying

According to a report which surfaced on NHK on December 7th, the studio has begun discussions with the families of those who perished on that tragic July day in order to determine how best to remember the victims. According to the report, a representative from Kyoto Animation said that the discussions started on December 4th and no one in the meetings voiced any strong objection to a memorial being erected in remembrance. This, unfortunately, would go against the wishes of the neighborhood, who stated back in 2019 that a memorial would be a nuisance to residents.

While these discussions are likely to continue for much longer, it’s nice to know that the victims of the attack will be remembered in some way. I still remember that day as clearly now as I did when it happened and feel that those chest-gripping emotions will never truly go away. Every time I watch a Kyoto Animation series I’m going to remember what it felt like that day as we all waited with bated breath for more tragic updates.

My sincere hope for these discussions is that the studio and families will be able to find an amicable solution that displeases the least amount of people. The victims of this tragedy deserve that much, at least.

Luckily for everyone around the world; business has resumed as usual for Kyoto Animation and they’re still producing those wonderful and magical series that bring joy to their fans around the world.
