I don’t care what you currently think of the upcoming live-action Cowboy Bebop series coming to Netflix in November 2021. Even if you already hate it for a variety of valid reasons, you have to admit that this is a nice touch for Netflix and gives them a slight boost in credibility.
In an announcement that hit Twitter on Tuesday, October 12th, Netflix Japan revealed they are reuniting the entire original Cowboy Bebop anime voice cast to dub the live-action version into Japanese. This will mark the first time the entire cast has been gathered together again since the 2001 Cowboy Bebop movie.

I know that we’ve all been burned by live-action Netflix adaptations in the past, but something about this one just feels right to me. It feels like Netflix is finally willing to admit that they’ve made mistakes in the past and will make amends for it with this homage to the original series that so many of us loved growing up. It’s not an understatement to say that Cowboy Bebop turned thousands of people around the world into anime fans over the years.
Between having studio Sunrise and Shinichiro Watanabe involved in the creative process, bringing back Yoko Kanno to handle the background music, and so many more little details along the way, this one just feels right. Then again, it wouldn’t be the first time that I’ve felt that deep pit of disappointment when my high hopes found themselves dashed on the jagged rocks of despair. So maybe the odds are closer to 50/50?
