The COVID-19 virus has caused lots of trouble for the world, causing harm to many lives and disrupting the flow of goods around the globe. Japan Post had to stop accepting packages for delivery to most countries for several months, as there were very few commercial jets flying between cities. Happily, the shipping situation has been improving, with shipping restored to most European countries including Switzerland. And now we have more good news: Japan post shipping to Italy and New Zealand are back online!
Anime in Italy
Anime has been huge in Italy for decades, and back in the 80s, I remember being actively jealous of Italians for getting so many awesome TV shows broadcast on television, allowing them to become widely popular there. Heidi Girl of the Alps, Cat’s Eye, Captain Harlock, Mazinger Z, Sailor Moon, Creamy Mami, The Rose of Versailles, Kimagure Orange Road, Lupin the 3rd and Fist of the North Star have all been broadcast in Italy.
The Italian love of anime is more than reciprocated by Japan’s love of all things Italian, and you can get a sense of this by the high number of anime that are set in Italy, some of which include
- The Adventures of Marco Polo
- Gunslinger Girl
- Romeo x Juliet
- Lupin the 3rd Part IV: The Italian Adventure
- Campione!
- Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind
- Porco Rosso
The final film is a very special film to Italians, I’ve been told, because Hayao Miyazaki deals with the era of fascism in the 1930s in a way that would be taboo for Italians to do. (For some reason everyone I know in Tokyo is Italian, and I’m often drinking with them, getting drunk and talking about anime.)
Anyway, we’re super glad the situation in Italy is improving, and that we can once again ship to our Italian customers via Japan Post’s affordable airmail or super-speedy EMS!
Shipping to New Zealand is Also Restored
We’ve got a lot of customers in New Zealand, and we’re happy to report that we can once again ship to our customers there via airmail and EMS.
I’m a big fan of New Zealand, having spent a year as a boy there. Few Americans are lucky enough to have fond memories of the hot springs of Rotorua or the glowworm caves in Waitomo, or having a Big Ben’s Meat Pie on the way home from school. I even visited One Tree Hill when it had a tree on it. When I met Temuera Morrison at a Star Wars convention, I was the only fan in the room who could sing the New Zealand National Anthem, which probably freaked him out just a bit.
J-List is super glad we can ship to New Zealand once again via inexpensive Japan Post airmail or speedy EMS!
