Way back in February of this year, we reported on the global launch of Symphogear XD Unlimited, the smartphone gacha game based on the musically-fueled action anime series Symphogear. It seemed like a promising title, mixing the musical elements of the series and the iconic characters into a simple yet addictive turn-based RPG adventure. The game even came out of the gate running by launching with an impressive collaboration on a massive scale in the form of a limited-time Attack on Titan event. Unfortunately, it seems like this promising anime adaptation failed to live up to expectations, as developer Pokelabo announced on Twitter that the game will be ending service and shutting down in July.

According to the tweet from the official Twitter account for the game, Symphogear XD Unlimited will be shut down on July 31, Just five months after it launched. Sales for Song Stones, the premium in-game currency used to roll for random new characters and upgrades, have already been suspended. While this is a shocking and sudden cancellation for overseas fan, the game has already been running for a few years now in Japan, having launched back in June of 2017. Still, this doesn’t make the shut down of the game any less upsetting.
Despite the impending shut-down, Symphogear XD Unlimited still plans to keep going with its upcoming event schedule, giving players new quests and characters to discover right until the service is shut down for good. The event schedule for the game is below:
- Innocent Sister story campaign – Early May 2020
- Maid Gear gacha event – Mid-May 2020
- Symphogear AXZ Main Quest update – Early June
- Alchemist gacha event – Mid-June
- Valkyries’ Summer event – Late June
- The Sirius of Zwei Wing event – Mid-July

Nine unique characters from the Symphogear anime series were playable in-game at launch – Hibiki Tachibana, Tsubasa Kazanari, Chris Yukine, Kirika Akatsuki, Shirabe Tsukuyomi, Miku Kohinata, Serena Cadenzavna Eve, Kanade Amou, and Maria Cadenzavna Eve. Other characters from the series are available in the form of candidate and support cards, which you’ll equip into your deck before battle to boost your combat capabilities. As you progress through the game, you’ll also unlock new songs from each character that you can perform during battle for special effects. The opening theme song of the game, “Unlimited Beat,” is performed by Nana Mizuki.
