My Hero One’s Justice 2 gets Release Date, New Characters, and More

It seems pretty commonplace for a successful anime and manga series to get a video game adaptation at some point. It seems even more common for that adaptation to fall into the arena-brawler genre. My Hero Academia was no exception, being turned into a hot-blooded arena action game last year in the form of My Hero Academia One’s Justice. Now, the Bandai Namco published anime game is getting a sequel. Thanks to a recent leak from Famitsu Weekly Magazine, we now know exactly when fans will be able to pick up My Hero One’s Justice 2.

In leaked scans from the pages of Famitsu Weekly Magazine, it’s been revealed that My Hero One’s Justice 2 will come out on March 12th, 2020. It’s set to be playable on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and even Nintendo Switch. Currently, this is only the release date for the Japanese version of the game, but there’s a strong chance that My Hero One’s Justice 2 will have a worldwide release on the same day. We’ll find out for sure once Bandai Namco makes their official release date announcement soon.

My Hero One’s Justice 2 is, at its core, very similar to the previous game in the series. Players engage in one-on-one fights in big, destructible environments where they can either recreate iconic battles from the original series or mash up their own what-if scenarios of heroes and villains duking it out. The one big thing this sequel expands on, thankfully, is the roster of available characters to bring into battle. The latest character confirmed to be coming to the game is Mirai Sasaki, better known as Sir Nighteye. He’s a former Pro Hero, and currently serves as the mentor to impressive Big 3 hero-in-training Mirio Togata. He was also at one point the sidekick to series mascot All Might. He has the powerful Quirk of Foresight that allows him to see another person’s future from a third-person point of view, allowing him to gain the upper hand in battle easily. He joins the other currently known new additions to the roster of My Hero One’s Justice 2:

  • Kai Chisaki, also known as Overhaul
  • Nejire Hado, also known as Nejire-chan
  • Tamaki Amajiki, also known as Suneater
  • Mirio Togata, also known as Lemillion
  • Mina Ashido, also known as Pinky
  • Minoru Mineta, also known as Fresh-Picked Hero: Grape Juice

If you want more than two characters involved in the action of My Hero One’s Justice 2, the new Side Kick Plus Ultra System is sure to make you happy. This new gameplay feature allows you and your opponent to call out support characters in the middle of battle for help, letting you build your ultimate hero or villain dream team. If you want to get a further insight into your favorite characters from My Hero Academia, the new story feature of My Hero One’s Justice 2 is sure to be a treat as well. Every character in the game, whether they’re a hero or a villain, will have their own unique story mode.

Fans in Japan who pre-order My Hero One’s Justice 2 on any console will get access to a variety of in-game bonuses for no extra cost. They’ll get a free unlock for the character Brainless, early access to two unknown DLC characters, and bonus DLC costumes for Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, Shoto Todoroki, Tsuyu Asui, and Ochako Uraraka.

My Hero One’s Justice 2 is set to release on March 12th, 2020.

Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia), abbreviated as HeroAca, is a Japanese superhero manga series written and illustrated by Kōhei Horikoshi. It has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since July 2014, and, as of February 2019, 22 volumes have been collected in tankobon format. The story follows Izuku Midoriya, a boy born without superpowers (called quirks) in a world where they have become commonplace, but who still dreams of becoming a hero. He is scouted by Japan’s greatest hero, who shares his quirk with Izuku after recognizing his potential, and later helps to enroll him in a prestigious high school for heroes in training.

The manga was adapted into an anime television series by Bones. Its first season aired in Japan from April 3rd, 2016, followed by a second season in 2017, then the third season in 2018. An animated film titled Boku no Hero Academia: Two Heroes was released on August 3rd, 2018. A second animated film is in production and there are plans for a live-action film by Legendary Entertainment.

The series has been licensed for English-language release by Viz Media and began serialization in their weekly digital manga anthology Weekly Shonen Jump on February 9th, 2015. Shueisha began to publish the series in English on the website and app Manga Plus in January 2019.

Boku no Hero Academia synopsis:

One day, a four-year-old boy came to a sudden realization: the world is not fair. Eighty percent of the world’s population wield special abilities, known as “quirks,” which have given many the power to make their childhood dreams of becoming a superhero a reality. Unfortunately, Izuku Midoriya was one of the few born without a quirk, suffering from discrimination because of it. Yet, he refuses to give up on his dream of becoming a hero; determined to do the impossible, Izuku sets his sights on the elite hero training academy, UA High.

However, everything changes after a chance meeting with the number one hero and Izuku’s idol, All Might. Discovering that his dream is not a dead end, the powerless boy undergoes special training, working harder than ever before. Eventually, this leads to him inheriting All Might’s power, and with his newfound abilities, gets into his school of choice, beginning his grueling journey to become the successor of the best hero on the planet.
