Studio MAPPA held a Zombie Land Saga panel at Crunchyroll Expo 2019 during which CEO Manabu Otsuka announced a second season of the popular undead idol series titled Zombie Land Saga: Revenge.
The panel featured voice actresses Kaede Hondo and Asami Tano, voices of Sakura Minamoto and Saki Nikaido respectively, as well as Yasuharu Takanashi, composer and heavy metal artist, in addition to the aforementioned CEO Otsuka.
Largely a celebration of Zombie Land Saga, the panel featured some fan favorite scenes: Sakura and Saki’s rap battle from episode 2 and Fra Chou Chou getting struck by lightning during their performance in episode 7.
The voice actresses spoke about the challenges of performing so many different types of music, their death scenes, as well as elements more typical of anime voice acting. Tano and Hondo said the rap battle scene was the first time rapping for the both of them, but Hondo went first and her impressive performance inspired some competitiveness in Tano, making the battle more authentic than she might have expected.
Yasuharu Takanashi had relatively little to say over the course of the panel. He had no experience with rap himself, being a heavy metal guy, he was often speaking from the perspective of a fan rather than an insider. He mentioned he has a rather extensive collection of Zombie Land Saga goods.
The announcement of Zombie Land Saga: Revenge came with a visual of producer Kotaro Tatsumi screaming with his arms raised to the sky. The actresses and producers could not say much about the project, which is still in early stages. Hondo said she is looking forward to seeing how Sakura relates to the other members of Fra Chou Chou now that she has her memories back. CEO Otsuka said that he is still working on the plot and so can’t say much besides how he thinks it is important to keep showcasing interesting and unique forms of music. Enka in particular got a warm reception from the fans at Crunchyroll Expo.
No dates or other information about Zombie Land Saga: Revenge is yet available.
