Divine Realm of the Round Table: Camelot – Teaser Revealed

With all the recent Fate announcements, it’s easy to say that 2020 will be a lively year for fans. As if the new Fate/Grand Order: Babylonia anime and Heaven’s Feel film wasn’t enough, Aniplex has also revealed the first teaser trailer and visual for another film titled Fate/Grand Order – Divine Realm of the Round Table: Camelot. This will be the first in a two-part production, the first film slated for a 2020 release. It will also be the first FGO film adaptation since First Order. 

If you’ve been following our updates of the recent Fate media we’ll speed through the details of exactly what Fate is, and Grand Order’s relation to the original visual novel from 2003. See, Fate/Grand Order has very little relation to Fate/Stay Night after the prologue chapter, which is covered in the First Order film. Afterwards, each story arc sends the main hero into a new point in time across the world to track down the cause of potential apocalyptic events, prevent it, retrieve the Holy Grail, and return for the next assignment. Since every story arc is its own thing, the audience could in theory experience each part in just about any order, so long as they have watched First Order. 

With that being said, Divine Realm of the Round Table: Camelot is the sixth story arc, taking place right before Babylonia.

In this new chapter, fans will get to see Saber’s origin story, as well as the Knights of the Round Table. Up until now, they only received brief mention of such in the visual novel and other media such as the manga. While the film will primarily follow the oldest knight under Saber’s command, Bedivere, surely all the knights will be present and have time in the spotlight.

In Arthurian Legend, King Arthur falls after their victory in the Battle of Camlann. The remaining knights go their separate ways, all except Bedivere, who stays by Arthur’s side until their final moments. Per King Arthur’s request, Bedivere waits until the king’s death and then returns the holy sword Excalibur to the Lady of the Lake. However, Fate/Grand Order takes a different approach where, instead of doing so, Bedivere makes off with Saber’s blade and continues on his own quest for redemption, having failed to prevent his king’s death.

Aniplex of America has licensed the film for English localization, and launched a teaser website. Currently, there is only minimal cast and production information available.

With Fate media taking over the majority of next year, now seems as a good a time as any to download the Fate/Grand Order mobile game, or pull up the other anime adaptations on Netflix, and catch up.
