One of the ways we knew there was something “different” about anime is when we saw our first anime kiss scene. The moment when two characters’ relationship finally reaches an emotional crescendo resulting in an on-screen kiss made our hearts soar as fans, and forever changed our relationship with anime. Let’s look at the most important anime kiss scenes, according to J-List customers!
The J-List website has been completely revamped with a faster and more mobile-friendly server. We’re still importing old orders and J-List Points from the old server, so please be patient for a few more days. Visit the new site now and see how you like it!
Why Are Anime Kiss Scenes So Much Fun to Watch?
I grew up in the days when animation was entirely for kids, and stories were expected to be “family-friendly.” This meant no on-screen violence, which is why you always saw parachutes ejecting from burning airplanes in the 1985 G.I. Joe cartoon, and no characters were ever killed. This was not the case in anime, which from the beginning told bold stories involving characters and whole planets in peril, as well as featuring people falling in love and kissing.
The first anime kiss scenes many fans encountered were from Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, distributed around the world as Robotech. We couldn’t believe such a compelling human drama could be told in animated form before this!
For ’90s kids, the story of Usagi and Mamoru’s relationship was extremely uplifting.
The anime that made us all want to find an alien teacher to marry was Onegai☆Teacher. The creators really focused on the sexual energy between the characters, and we’ll never forget it.
Sometimes an anime kiss can be revolutionary, as the relationship between Utena and Anthy from Revolutionary Girl Utena showed. The show turned me into a lesbian, and I’m not even a girl.
Evangelion was another anime to really use kiss scenes to heighten drama and pull us into the world of the characters. How did you feel the first time you watched it?
What Were the Favorite Kiss Moments of J-List Customers?
I asked J-List’s awesome customers of culture on Facebook and Twitter to share their favorite anime kiss moments, so keep reading to see what they offered!
The Inuyasha second movie did it for me.
The kiss from Yosuga no Sora. Because you never turn your back on family.
I loved the relationship between Yuzu and Mei from Citrus so much.
The kiss from Ore Monogatari for me.
Steins;Gate had one of the best kiss scenes. We waited so long for Okabe and Kurisu to pull the trigger.
You can’t get any better than the kiss scene in episode 25 of Toradora.
I love the anime kiss from Taisho Otome Fairy Tale.
I think this one from Heavens Feel belongs in any top 5. ALL THOSE YEARS WAITING JUST TO SEE SAKURA BE HAPPY FOR ONCE IN HER LIFE WAS COMPLETELY EUPHORIC. Also seeing a softcore sex scene in a movie theater full of Fate fans was a hilarious experience in hindsight.
The kiss that made millions of geeks (not me) worldwide destroy their computers. XD
