Which Christmas Anime Do You Watch During the Christmas Season?

Top Christmas Anime 01

Christmas is right around the corner, and J-List is helping you make it a great one with our EMS shipping sale! From now through Dec. 26, get 50% off EMS shipping when you order $50 or more from Japan. No coupon to enter, so make your order now!

It’s starting to feel quite Christmas-ey here in Japan, with everyone bundled up warmly while they shop in stores decorated with holiday cheer, and Christmas cakes and KFC being preordered for pick-up on December 24th. Although they sometimes lack a deep understanding of Christmas, Japan has embraced the season as a fun time of year to decorate your house and have an extra special dinner (always on December 24th, never on Christmas itself). Another tradition that’s taken hold lately is municipalities and commercial districts spending lavishly to create “illumination” areas that are incredibly beautiful, to attract families and couples.

Since Christmas is a big part of some of some great anime series, I thought it’d be fun to make a list of the top Christmas anime to re-watch this holiday season. So get some eggnog or hot cocoa, bundle up warm and enjoy these great Christmas anime selections from J-List.

Toradora

It’s one of the best-executed anime series ever, and my favorite of the decade of the 2000s, with a great Christmas episode. When several Twitter followers said they regularly re-watched it this time of year, I decided to start a re-watch, too. If you like, join us!

The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya

If I had to be marooned on a desert island with only one anime, it would be this film. A great Christmas anime to re-watch every year, and I do.

Amagami SS

Another gem of the decade of the 2000s, it’s a romantic comedy based on a PS2 game in which each of six heroines gets her own romantic “route” that each culminates on Christmas Eve. Pick your favorite girl (Morishima-senpai and Nanasaki Ai are mine) and re-watch to get into the holiday mood.

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Christmas Episode

Episode 10 of Kobayashi Dragon Maid is a great Christmas episode.

The Love Hina Christmas Special

A made-for-TV movie from 2000, great if you’re a fan of this great series.

Lucky Star

How do you spend Christmas Eve? Why not watch episode 11 of this anime classic.

The Charlie Brown Christmas Special

Not “anime,” but Christmas couldn’t begin without it. No matter where my kids and I are in the world, we always enjoy it!
