A few notes about the new J-List website:
- remember, subscriptions (both magazine and snacks) and game downloads are currently removed from the new J-List site, but they will return soon
- customer history will be imported from the old system over the next week or so (really!)
Japan has always been closely linked with photography, and before the country became famous for anime and “naughty tentacles,” a common stereotype was a Japanese tourist toting a massive Nikon camera. This love of taking pictures hasn’t changed, although the rise of mobile phones mean you see a lot fewer proper cameras in use. As with other countries, it’s common to see people snapping selfies, the much-maligned-but-kind-of-fun self portraits that have come to define the era we live in, for better or worse. People wanting to use selfie sticks to take these pictures will have to steer clear of Osaka Station, however: they’ve been officially banned, as they represent a danger of electrocution, since trains in Japan run via high voltage electrical wires that might come in contact with the sticks while taking a picture.
One thing that got me into anime back in the day was the fact that it told amazingly dramatic stories that actually went somewhere, which is why I’m especially frustrated when I encounter a show with characters that fail to grow and stories that aren’t resolved properly. I’m sure everyone can name some shows that had a great overall premise yet failed to deliver in the end. After I watched the second season of Working!!, an anime about young people working in a family restaurant, I was disappointed because the story set up a lot of interesting relationships then seemed to leave everything hanging. When the third season came along I asked my Twitter and Facebook followers if the new series actually tied up its maddening loose ends. Everyone told me yes, it did, so I’m working through the series now. What “good show but terrible ending” anime series have you watched in the past?
