Ah, summer, the season of fireworks festivals and eating watermelon with your childhood friend while sweating under the hot sun. It’s also the start of yet another anime season when fans try to map out which new shows they’ll watch. As usual, here’s a post going over the most highly anticipated anime series, which J-List plans on following!
What Anime will J-List Watch in the New Anime Season?
With 45+ new regular anime series in the new anime season, not counting another 30 ONA, or “original net animation” series (many of which are Chinese stories funded by Bilibili that won’t get Japanese dubs, let alone English ones), there’s a lot to take in. As usual, some series will thrill us with amazing stories of love and drama, while others will fail to make a splash for one reason or another. We can never tell ahead of time which shows will be great, and which anime series will disappoint us. Here are our picks for the best shows to watch!
Kanojo, Okarishimasu 2nd Season. The new season of Rental Girlfriend is here, and I for one will be tuning in. While this series caused many fans to get upset because they identified with the main character too much…but I found the show’s characters and writing to be very enjoyable. We also got lots of cute figures, sexy doujinshi, and even parody ero toys, which makes me happy!
The Devil is a Part-Timer! Season 2. The End Times must truly be upon us because we’re finally getting a continuation of the series fans have been asking for since 2013. The story of a devil who gets “reverse isekai’ed” into our world, he must get a job at McDonald’s MgRonald’s flipping burgers to make ends meet while he contemplates taking over the world. While I find it ridiculous to bring a beloved show back after a nine-year gap, I’m certainly looking forward to the new season.
Made in Abyss: Retsujitsu no Ougonkyou. One of the most amazing adventure stories I’ve ever found in anime, I’m super happy to have the story continue. Make sure to watch the first season, or the two compilation films plus the third film, which continues the story past season 1.
Overlord IV. I’m always happy to have more fun with Ainz, Albedo, Shalltear, and all the rest. Are you looking forward to the new season of Overlord?
Mamahaha no Tsurego ga Motokano Data. Another “two people had sex, then ended up as stepsister-stepbrother when their parents got married,” like Domestic na Kanojo. And since that was such a fun series, I’ll be happy to give this show a chance. The children of their parent’s remarriage were ex-lovers?!
My Isekai Life: I Gained a Second Character Class and Became the Strongest Sage in the World. I know some fans are getting tired of the isekai genre, but hear me out. Has any title with slimes on its poster or in its title ever been a failure? Let’s give this one a chance!
Classroom of the Elite and Shadows House 2nd Season. New series are always great, aren’t they? Yes, if the story that’s being told is interesting, and not just a meandering mess that will cause fans to drop the show in frustration, which seemed to happen with Shield Hero season 2. Here’s hoping they actually have a story worth telling in the new seasons!
Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? IV. Another beloved series returns…but should it? While I’m always down for a new chance to see Hestia’s “bustia,” I can’t escape the fear that they’re continuing some series beyond the point of viewer demand? Here’s hoping I’m wrong.
The Maid I Hired Recently Is Mysterious. Based on a webcomic posted to Twitter and Pixiv, this is the story of a pure, young boy named Yuri and a beautiful dark-skinned maid named Lilith. Will love blossom between them? I will totally be tuning in for the tanned maid and the possibility for Onee x Shota action.
Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World. Again, the isekai genre is starting to lose some of its lusters. My prediction is, that if this show can impress with some sexy fan service, it might win some fans who want a light-hearted story coupled with visual eye candy.
Yofukashi no Uta: Call of the Night. A student named Kou quits school and starts walking alone at night to manage his insomnia. One evening, he meets a strange girl named Nazuna who invites him back to her place…where she reveals herself as a vampire!?
Soredemo Ayumu wa Yosetekuru: The When Will Ayumu Make His Move? A romantic comedy about kendo and shougi? If the execution is good, this could possibly be an entertaining series in the new anime season…
New Tokyo Mew Mew. The beloved 2003 magical girl anime returns. Will be win fans’ hearts this time around? I will totally be watching!
