The monster anime season I warned you about is here, and suddenly fans are getting hit left and right with dozens of high-quality episodes of anime and trying to keep up. When the first episode of My Dress-Up Darling season 2 dropped, I made sure to watch it immediately, because I love Marin Kitagawa so much. Let’s explore the allure of this legendary anime in this blog post!

The Return of My Dress-Up Darling!
I love My Dress-Up Darling. It brought us the most amazing waifu ever in the form of fashionable otaku cosplayer Marin Kitagawa, and gave us a hero to root for in Gojou. I also love the show because of its huge popularity, which produced many sexy figures, parody doujinshi, and cosplay JAV titles for J-List to sell. Everybody wins!
There’s a lot to look forward to in My Dress-Up Darling season 2. We get fresh new costumes for Marin-tan to wear for us, along with new challenges getting the costumes to work right. We’ll also get more character growth for Gojou as he gains confidence and social skills. And of course, we want to see the romantic bond between the two characters reach its finale. Since the manga has recently concluded, maybe we’ll get the glorious resolution we want this season!
Why Do We Love Marin Kitagawa So Much?
Let’s examine why fans fell so hard for Marin-tan back when the show first aired in 2022!
She’s the Perfect Bridge Between Fashion and Otaku Culture
If you see an extremely fasionable girl, or a swole dude getting his reps in at the gym, you generally don’t expect these people to be hardcore otakus like you or me. But maybe the girl is streaming the latest anime on her phone, and maybe the guy is listening to uplifting Dragon Ball songs to keep his motivation up. In the world we live in, anyone can be an otaku!
She’s the Most Supportive Girl, Ever
From the moment she meets Gojou-kun, she never mocks or makes jokes about his unique hobby. A guy likes making dolls? No problem. A girl is into hardcore porn games? Who cares?
Marin’s Joy is Always Infectious
Whenever Marin starts obsessing about a new character she wants to cosplay, her passion never fails to infect us, too. And when the costume is completed, the joy she experiences trying it on for the first time becomes our joy, too. It’s instantly getting me all hyped!
Marin Kitagawa “Wuvs” Gojou-kun So Much
The chemistry between Marin and Gojou is one of the best things about the show, and watching the slow burn of their romance blossom each episode is amazing. While it’s usually frustrating to watch a main character who is clueless about the romantic feelings a girl has for him, in the case of Gojou this plot point feels quite natural…. Actually, I did the same thing as Gojou back in high school. Anyway, I can’t see where the story ends up!

My Dress-Up Darling Is Proof of the Power of Fandom
I love the current age we live in, when fans can really shape the kind of stories we want to see. Whenever an amazing manga comes along — like Uzaki-chan Wants To Hang Out, Komi Can’t Communicate, or Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro — fans bombard social media with screencaps and memes about it, creating critical mass until an anime gets made. In the case of My Dress-Up Darling, fans were unswerving in their love for the characters, and of course very supportive when it came to buying the Blu-rays. As a result, it was basically unavoidable that we’d get a continuation of this wonderful story. (The above cosplayer’s link is here.)
