May The Fourth Be With You! Let’s Celebrate Anime With Star Wars!
There have basically been two influences in my life: Japan and Star Wars. Since Star Wars has such a close connection to Japanese visual culture and history, they’re really one and the same.
Star Wars has always been well-represented in anime, with lots of shout-outs and homages. And there’s no shortage of Star Wars anime-related fan art out there to enjoy. Let’s check out some of my favorites in this blog post!
Saber as Luke Skywalker makes a lot of sense and looks great visually. (Source link.)
Yoda as an anime girl? This is the best Star Wars anime homage I could think of. (Source link.)
We love the artwork of Tatsuya Shingyouji, who loves to parody famous Hollywood movies in his unique style. (Source link.)
Star Wars and Gundam have always been closely associated since they were released within a year of each other. Beam Sabres were even added to the anime to capitalize on the popularity of lightsaber duels. We love this parody art by Kazami Ryoma. (Source link.)
How did Japanese fans celebrate the 45th anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam? Read this blog post!
It’s great to know that Anya is a Star Wars fan. I have some concerns about what she’s building, though. (Source link.)
We love the “mecha musume” riff on Star Wars vehicles, too. (Source link.)
Why did Star Trek fail to find a foothold in Japan? I’ve got a blog post on this topic!
Star Wars, rendered in Urusei Yatsura style. Why not? (Source link.)
Being a Macross fan, I obviously approve of Minmei in a metal slave bikini. (Source link.)
Vader and Tarkin recreate a classic scene from Evangelion. This is a great Star Wars anime homage! (Source link.)
Let’s Check Out More Star Wars Anime Art!
Of course, no one creates awesome anime versions like Shunya Yamashita. This art is so good, it got a figure from Kotobukiya.
The outstanding Star Wars Visions made quite an impression on fan artists, especially the Bunny Girl Jedi Lop. (Source link.)
Stupid sexy Clone Troopers. (Source link.)
