You don’t hear about anime getting crowdfunded super often. You also usually don’t hear about crowdfunding for an established, long-running modern anime series. You especially don’t often hear about an anime project getting nearly ten times the amount of funding that it asked for. The godfather of modern yuri comedy anime Yuruyuri has somehow managed to check all three of those boxes, running an absolutely jaw-dropping crowdfunding campaign last year that has resulted in a new OVA sequel to come out on November 13th.
Between December 25, 2018, and February 15, 2019, the team behind the Yuruyuri series asked for 10 million yen (about 100,000 US dollars) to fund a special OVA anime sequel to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the iconic and adorable Yuruyuri franchise. Fans of the long-running slice-of-life comedy series went above and beyond, raising a staggering 87,936,374 yen from 4,567 backers.
Now, thanks to the support of all those backers, the tenth anniversary OVA Yuruyuri ten will be released on Blu-ray for everyone on November 13, 2019. Amazon Japan has a listing for the release that puts it at 8,800 yen (about 82.6 US dollars). If you’re one of the 4,567 dedicated crowdfunding backers who chipped in at a certain tier, you’ll be receiving a special limited-edition version of the Blu-ray OVA anime release. That Blu-ray is set to start shipping two months earlier, right in the middle of September.
The regular release of the Blu-ray contains some extra goodies besides the 10th anniversary OVA, though. On top of the anime itself, the general edition release comes with a special soundtrack CD that has the TV size version of the brand new OP song, “Yuruyuri, Tenyawanya☆” on it. It also has the new OVA ending song “Ripitte Chime♪,” three brand new background music tracks, and an audio commentary by the Nanamori-chu Gorakubu members.
There isn’t a localization or streaming announcement for the OVA yet, but keep your eyes peeled for the Japanese Blu-ray release of Yuruyuri ten on November 13, 2019.
