It’s been a while since we last discussed White Fox and their new anime starring a white fox. Sengoku Youko is still shaping up to be a great anime series. Powerful demons and cute girls wage war in ancient Japan. We’ll see how the siblings caught up in warring factions will do when the series premieres sometime in January 2024. Until then, let’s enjoy the new trailer.
Satoshi Mizukami worked on his Sengoku Youko manga series from December 28th, 2007, to May 20th, 2016. Mag Garden has published all seventeen volumes in the Blade Comics imprint.
Our new white fox and a couple of cute girls are as follows:
- Jinka Yamato — Soma Saito (Himura Kenshin in Rurouni Kenshin). A mostly human warrior who despises humans. He transforms into a powerful white fox demon to face his enemies.
- Tama Youko — Yuki Takada (Elma in Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid). A demon who, contrary to her brother’s desires, loves humans. She enables Jinka to transform.
- Shakugan — Tomoyo Kurosawa (Rebecca in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners). A human girl who became fused to a golem. She can transform her arms into golem form to fight.
White Fox has set up a home page and a Twitter page to promote Sengoku Youko. Fans of the series and potential fans of white foxes can find behind-the-scenes information and the Key Visual on those sites.
White Fox Serves Divine Anime
White Fox (the studio) was founded in April 2007 by Gaku Iwasa and other former OLM Team Iwasa staff members. Since then, the animators have delivered some stellar anime. They have worked on the isekai series Re:Zero — Starting Life in Another World, where the main character learns from each death (and chooses the wrong girl), to the worldline bending Steins;Gate, where super science is both the problem and solution.
It’s not all doom and gloom with them, however. They have animated SoniAni: Super Sonico The Animation, an anime starring a cute pink-haired girl who rocks her heart out. Not Bocchi, the other one, the waifu created by Tsuji Santa for Nitroplus.
A World Divided in Sengoku Youko
Sengoku Youko is another solid entry in the “ancient-Japan-rife-with-dangerous-spirits” anime series. Two factions govern this world: humans and the demonic katawara. Two stepsiblings are caught in this undesirable situation: the fox demon Tama Youko, who actually quite likes humans, and her mainly human stepbrother, Jinka Yamato, who hates humans.
These traveling siblings are joined by a unique cast of characters. Shinsuke Hyoudou is a cowardly rurouni who desires to become strong. He also wants to learn more about both humans and katawara. Shakugan is a girl with a bright smile and a dark past. She was born into poverty, and her parents decided to sell her off. Arcane magic was used to fuse Shakugan to a golem, which gave her a unique physiology. This golem girl has joined the demon stepsiblings on their travels. Tama and Jinka will need them, as conspiracies and dangers await everywhere.
