His story is a bit different, though: half the people in the story are just stupid. The series mixes slapstick comedy and meta references with darker tones like murder, torture, and toxic behavior like gaslighting and abuse. That makes it all the sweeter when they get what’s coming to them. Asa Rokushima released the original The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a Second Lease on Life novel on the user-generated website Shosetsuka ni Naro on January 16th, 2021. Kisui provided the art for the light novel adaptation, which debuted on January 5th, 2022. Kodansha has published both volumes in the Kodansha Ranobe Books imprint. Mochi Gyomuyo provided the art for the manga adaptation, which debuted on October 20th, 2021. Kodansha has published twenty volumes in Monthly Magazine Base.

- Lily Flambert — Lynn (Miyako Saito from Oshi no Ko). Lily is an S-Rank adventurer with deep emotional scars.
- Margaret Ells — Yoshino Aoyama (Hitori Goto from Bocchi the Rock!). Margaret is a B-Rank adventurer who carries a grudge against Lily.

The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a Second Lease on Life with Cute Adventurers
Rein Garland is an overworked and underappreciated reinforcement mage for one of the most powerful adventurer guilds. His boss decided that they could cut costs and fire him without a care in the world. After the boss tossed him out (literally), Rein hits the road and recalls all of the reinforcement points he has used for the guild, all 13,033 of them, leaving their gear near worthless for adventurers.
The Blue Crystal guild scouts him as an unfortunate adventurer who needs a home. Rein teams up with the reclusive S-Rank adventurer Lily Flambert to test his mettle against a dragon. He manages to slay it with a reinforced copper dagger with one throw, proving his cheat-level powers. His next trick is to help Lily come to terms with her last quest, the one that saw her as the sole survivor of a dragon attack. A victim’s sister plots her demise even before discovering the truth.
