Two high schools stand so close, yet they couldn’t be further apart. Kikyo Private Academy teaches wealthy and affluent girls to succeed in life, while Chidori Public High School strives to prepare its primarily male students to simply get by. The girls at Kikyo absolutely loathe the delinquent boys at Chidori. Despite it all, a Romeo and Juliet tale is about to unfold between two star-crossed lovers. We’ll see how the delinquent boy and pretty girl get along when The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity (Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku) premieres on July 5th, 2025.
Saka Mikami released the original The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity manga series on October 20th, 2021. Kodansha has since published seventeen volumes in Magazine Pocket.
The opposites that attracted and a cute childhood friend are as follows:
- Rintaro Tsumugi — Yoshinori Nakayama (Kaden from The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World). A shy and self-deprecating boy whose intimidating appearance terrifies strangers.
- Kaoruko Waguri — Honoka Inoue (Xiaomei from Edens Zero). A kind-hearted girl who attends a prestigious private academy on a scholarship.
- Subaru Hoshina — Aya Yamane (Daitaku Helios from Uma Musume Pretty Derby). Kaoruko’s childhood friend, who admires her kindness and inner strength.

The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity, Grace, and Kindness
The all-girls Kikyo Private Academy and the all-boys Chidori Public High School may be right next to one another, but they’re worlds apart. The Kikyo girls are mostly affluent, rich girls, and they all despise the lower-class boys at Chidori. Only one girl among them would give people a chance to prove what sort of person they are, and she has a fateful meeting with one of the scarier Chidori students.
Rintaro Tsumugi grew up feared and despised for his scary expression and tall physique. He internalized this hatred and blamed himself for everything. Kaoruko Waguri flees at their first meeting, only to return and apologize for her abrupt exit. She insists that they already met at his family’s bakery, and she only has positive feelings about him. In fact, her heart was all aflutter when she met him. Rintaro was surprised by her words, and his own wounded heart went aflutter.
