It’s been a couple of years since Season 2 of The Devil is a Part-Timer (Hataraku Mao-sama! or Working Demon King!) was confirmed, and several months since we were even given a glimpse of it. At long last, studio 3Hz, who is taking over from studio White Fox, has released a trailer for the upcoming season. It won’t be airing until July 2023, but we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.
The promotional home page and official Twitter page for the anime series have been maintained and regularly updated. In fact, they released some key visuals that can be viewed below. The Dengeki Bunko home page for the original light novel iteration of The Devil is a Part-Timer is also readily available to view.
Class Change from Demon Lord to Cashier
For those new to the series, The Devil is a Part-Timer is a comical story about a demon lord and his generals on the brink of fully conquering another world. Demon Lord Satan, and his demon generals Alciel, Lucifer, Malacoda, and Adramelech were in the process of annexing the four continents of Ente Isla. The great human hero Emilia Justina, together with her companions, confronted Satan, and managed to slay Malacoda and Adramelech.
Seeing their plans coming to ruin, Satan and Alciel escape Ente Isla through a gateway that lead to modern Tokyo, Japan. Essentially, a reverse isekai situation. However, due to the lack of magic in that world, both Satan and Alciel change into forms representing what they would look like if they were human, and their overall power is greatly diminished. In order to survive in the new world, Satan takes a part-time job in a fast food restaurant named MgRonald’s under the guise of Sadao Maou, with his family name being a reference to his position as demon lord. Unfortunately, Emilia followed him through the gate, and under the name of Emi Yusa, gets a job at a call center.
The Devil is a Part-Timer Origins
The Devil is a Part-Timer first got a job at a knockoff McDonald’s in the light novel series written by Satoshi Wagahara and illustrated by Oniku, whose name is written as 029. ASCII Media Works published the series in their Dengeki Bunko imprint from February 10th, 2011 through to August 7th, 2020, in a total of 30 volumes.
The series was later adapted to manga, with the artist Akio Hiiragi taking over in February 2012. There are currently nineteen volumes available for fans to purchase and collect. There were also a couple of spinoff manga series, The Devil Is a Part-Timer! High School! and Hataraku Mao-sama no Meshi!, but those seem to be limited in nature.
