A lot people might recognize the name The Devil is a Part-Timer! from the incredible comedy anime that aired back in 2013. The delightful series about a crew of heroes and villains from a fantasy world being forced to live out their days in regular old Japan was a massive hit, and anime enthusiasts across the globe are still hoping for a 2nd season. There’s certainly a wealth of material to adapt into a follow-up season, considering the light novel series that the anime was based on has been running since 2011. That story is set to come to an end, though, as the 21st and final volume of The Devil is a Part-Timer! will be shipped in Japan this summer.
Yen Press publishes the Satoshi Wagahara light novel series The Devil is a Part-Timer!, as well as the manga adaptation by Akio Hiiragi, in English, and describes the story as follows:
After being soundly thrashed by the hero Emilia, the Devil King and his general beat a hasty retreat to a parallel universe… only to land plop in the middle of bustling, modern-day Tokyo! Lacking the magic necessary to return home, the two are forced to assume human identities and live average human lives until they can find a better solution. And to make ends meet, Satan finds gainful employment at a nearby fast food joint! With his devilish mind set on working his way up the management food chain, what will become of his thirst for conquest?!
The Devil is a Part-Timer! was launched by Wagahara and illustrator 029 back in 2011. The manga adaptation by Hiiragi, meanwhile, debuted in Kadokawa’s Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh magazine in December of that same year. Another manga spinoff by Kurone Mishima, titled Hataraku Maou-sama! High School!, ran in Kadokawa’s Dengeki Maoh magazine from 2013 to 2015.
