A true, hard-core book lover met an unfortunate end after an earthquake rocked her bookshelves and buried her in her beloved tomes. She was reborn into a world of swords and sorcery like any good isekai protagonist. Irony struck yet again when this book-lover’s hobby became their downfall. Her new world has a low literacy rate, and books are rare. We’ll see how she deals with her new circumstances when Ascendance of a Bookworm (Honzuki no Gekokujo: Shisho ni Naru Tame ni wa Shudan o Erandeiraremasen) returns with its new arc Adopted Daughter of an Archduke sometime in Spring 2026.
Miya Kazuki and You Shiina released the original Ascendance of a Bookworm light novel on January 25th, 2015. TO Books has since published 37 volumes in the TO Bunko imprint. Studio Ajiado’s anime adaptation premiered on October 3rd, 2019.
The isekai book lover and her new companions are as follows:
- Urano Motosu / Myne / Rozemyne — Yuka Iguchi (Chigusa Hitachi from Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?). A reincarnation from Japan who loves books.
- Ferdinand — Show Hayami (Iznario Fareed from Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans). The city of Ehrenfest’s High Priest.
- Sylvester — Kazuhiko Inoue (Gildarts Clive from Fairy Tail). The archduke of Ehrenfest, Ferdinand’s brother and Rozemyne’s adopted father.

Ascendance of a Bookworm in a World with Few Books
Urano Motosu was an avid book reader. She loved books and enjoyed adding them to her ever-growing collection. Urano died as she lived: buried under a mountain of her beloved tomes. Her prayer to God to be reborn so she could live a life filled with books may have, in part, been answered. Urano was reborn as Myne, a commoner girl in a world with lots of magic but few books. Her journey to find books to read began immediately.
Myne’s quest for books would lead her into battle and to uncovering a plot to harm a lot of people. Her undeniable well of mana would make her an asset to stop the plotters and save her new friends and family. However, she would shine a bit too brightly, and so she must sever ties with those she loves to join the nobility. Myne will officially die, and Rozemyne will become an archduke’s daughter.
