It’s been a while since last we heard about this new Code Geass project. It was known as Z of the Recapture at the time of its announcement in 2020. Now, there is a proper title and a new trailer. Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture is a four-part movie series set after the events of Lelouch of the Re;surrection. We’ll see how well things go for our new cast of soldiers sometime in May 2024. Until then, let’s check out that trailer.
Sunrise began producing numerous Code Geass anime series based on Lelouch’s conquest from October 6th, 2006, through February 9th, 2019.
The title character from Rozé of the Recapture and his brother are as follows:
- Rozé — Kohei Amasaki (Fourtricks from One Piece). A soldier with a more playful side. He has a red stripe in his hair.
- Ash — Makoto Furukawa (Rider of Red/Achilles from Fate/Apocrypha). A soldier with a more taciturn side. He has a blue wave in his hair.
Sunrise has maintained a home page and an official Twitter (X) page to promote Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture. Neither now has too many plot or character details but does have a Key Visual. Keep an eye on them for further series information to appear in the future.
Sunrise Starts a New Geass War
Even though it’s known as Bandai Namco Filmworks nowadays, we will always consider it Sunrise. People call the fluid animation and action sequences “Sunrise Smooth” for a reason. This is one of those studios that need no introduction, but they deserve one anyway. Former members of Mushi Production founded Sunrise in 1972. They took to animating mecha anime because it was niche and could make toys.
Sunrise is responsible for some of the most legendary anime series to ever grace this planet. Besides the Code Geass series, they have animated Cowboy Bebop, Gundam, Outlaw Star, Crest of the Stars, The Vision of Escaflowne, Love Live!, Dirty Pair, Inuyasha, and many more.
Rozé of the Recapture Furthers Code Geass 10-Year Plan
Rozé of the Recapture is part of Sunrise’s “Code Geass Next 10 Years Project.” It’s little wonder why the studio is planning well ahead for this franchise. Lelouch’s rebellion was well-received when it first began all the way back in 2006, after all. With numerous spin-offs, including manga, video games, and other anime entries, Code Geass has plenty of potential to tap into. That potential can only be furthered with CLAMP handling the character designs.
While we have no concrete plot details beyond the two primary characters being brothers, we do know that Rozé of the Recapture will span four movies. They’re set after the events of Lelouch of the Re;surrection, so one must wonder if Lelouch, C.C., or anyone else might appear. The first movie will premiere in May of 2024. That’s quite a wait time. Hopefully, Sunrise will share more details, such as the names of the cute new waifus they teased in this first trailer.
