The famed wolf girl returns in a new anime series! Spice and Wolf: merchant meets the wise wolf is the latest entry in the beloved anime series. It also serves to celebrate the original novel’s fifteenth anniversary. We’ll see how our favorite odd couple does when the series premieres sometime in April 2024. We can enjoy the new trailer until then.
Isuna Hasekura and Ju Ayakura first released their Spice and Wolf light novel series on February 10th, 2006. ASCII Media Works has published 24 volumes in the Dengeki Bunko imprint.
Our favorite wolf and merchant are as follows:
- Holo — Ami Koshimizu (Yang Xiao Long from RWBY: Ice Queendom). Holo is a mighty wolf deity who ensured bountiful harvests for Pasloe. The people began to forsake her, so she left with Lawrence to find a better life.
- Kraft Lawrence — Jun Fukuyama (Yumichika Ayasegawa from Bleach). Lawrence is a traveling merchant who dreams of running his own shop. He forms a bond with Holo and agrees to take her back to Yoitsu.

The Timeless Tale of Spice and Wolf: merchant meets the wise wolf
Spice and Wolf begins with a powerful wolf deity looking after a humble farming village. Holo befriended a human centuries ago and agreed to use her power to ensure bountiful harvests for Pasloe. She warned them that the lands would need to rest every so often. However, the humans accused her of being fickle and that she was demanding more offerings and worship. In reality, this was simple soil degradation. Holo was blamed for less-than-stellar harvests during those resting years.
The people of Pasloe had forsaken Holo for years, further leading to her isolation and loneliness. Her fortunes take a turn when Kraft Lawrence arrives to conduct some business. Holo took the opportunity to stow away in his cart to speak with Lawrence. She explained her unfortunate situation and brokered a deal with him. She would offer him wisdom if he returned her home to the frozen north of Yoitsu. Their companionship would ease her loneliness, and their friendship would become much more than she expected.
