The last time we talked about the upcoming second season of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime was to reveal the then-newly minted premiere date of January 12th along with the news that Funimation intended to produce a dub at an as yet unknown later date. Today, however, we’re back with a bunch of new information including a new key visual (seen above), a new promotional video (seen below), and some new cast members who will interact with the Jura Tempest Federation!
As you saw in that promotional video, we learned a ton of new information, so let’s break it all down…
First off, as promised, here are all the new cast members who will be joining the story throughout the second season (character names first):
Hinata Sakaguchi: Manami Numakura
Shogo Taguchi: Chiaki Kobayashi
Kyoya Tachibana: Sho Gogami
Kirara Mizutani: Hiyori Kono
Albis: Ai Kakuma
Suphia: Yo Taichi
Grucius: Satoshi Hino
Mjurran: Atsumi Tanezaki
It was also revealed that the opening theme song (previewed in the promotional video) is titled Storyteller and will be sung by TRUE. The ending theme will be performed by the band STEREO DIVE FOUNDATION.
Originally a light novel series written by Fuse and illustrated by Mitz Vah, the first volume hit store shelves in Japan in May 2014. As of September 2020, there are seventeen volumes in print. The series has been released in English by Yen Press since September 2017, with nine volumes printed as of November 2020. A manga adaptation was launched in Japan in October 2015. Kodansha USA holds the English rights to the manga and has published thirteen volumes as of June 2020.
The anime adaptation produced by studio 8-Bit hit the airwaves in October 2018 and ran for two cours. It features Yasuhito Kikuchi as director and Kazuyuki Fudeyasu handling the series composition. The anime was licensed and released in English by Funimation, who describes the series as:
Average 37-year-old Minami Satoru dies and is reincarnated as the most unremarkable creature imaginable — a slime. Initially, things are pretty grim. He’s blind, deaf, and weak. But by combining his two special abilities, “Predator” and “Great Sage,” the newly named, Rimuru Tempest will use his blobby powers to gain both friends and foes alike in a diverse new world.
