A few days ago we posted about voice actress Aya Hirano issuing a challenge on Twitter using the hashtag #お家で全力ハレ晴レユカイ (Do the “Hare Hare Yukai” With All Your Might at Home). The hashtag is pretty self-explanatory; Hirano is challenging people to stay at home, learn the Hare Hare Yukai dance from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and post a video of themselves attempting the challenging dance. Well… she was successful because the hashtag has exploded with entries including from some notable figures in the anime industry!
To refresh your memory, here is Hirano’s original entry into the challenge:

In the previous article, we showed you one of the first attempts made by lead male character Kyon’s voice actor Tomokazu Sugita. Now we have entries from the accomplished otaku Shoko “Shokotan” Nakagawa and voice actor Minoru Shiraishi.
First up is Shokotan’s video (her video is in the upper left-hand portion of the following tweet, hit the blue “Play” button to see the video) and as you can see, she’s quite winded by the end but still manages to pull off pretty much all the moves.
The one that really impressed me, however, was Shiraishi’s who videoed himself doing the dance solo in such a fluid way that you’re not sure if he had the reference video handy or if he was doing purely from memory. Also, you have to love the pose at the end of the video.
Not just celebrities are getting in on the action though as many people have been taking on the challenge from their own homes complete with cosplay!

Then there are some who felt the need to put their own unique spin on the dance, often to hilarious results.
