Our favorite trash game expert is back! Shangri-La Frontier Season 2 enters its next storyline, the highly-anticipated Abyss City Arc. Its full name is “The Sky Above, The Spread-Out Sea, Beyond the Abyssal City,” but we’ll keep it short for brevity’s sake. Sunraku takes to the sea to continue his hunt for the next colossus on January 26th, 2025.
Katarina and Ryosuke Fuji released the original Shangri-La Frontier manga series on July 15th, 2020. Since then, Kodansha has published twenty volumes in Weekly Shonen Magazine. C2C’s anime adaptation premiered on October 1st, 2023.
Three of our adventurers are as follows:
- Sunraku / Rakuro Hizutome — Yuma Uchida (Megumi Fushiguro from Jujutsu Kaisen). A pro gamer who hunts the most dangerous monsters to progress the in-game story.
- Akane Akitsu — Yuka Terasaki (Luca from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s). A pro gamer who faced Siegwurm the Sky Ruler and survived with a scar.
- Stude — Aki Kanada (Mini Krillin from Dragon Ball Daima). An event NPC who can help Sunraku reach Ctarnidd of the Abyss.

Shangri-La Frontier Begins the Abyss City Arc
Rakuro Hizutome is a well-known “trash game hunter,” a gamer who prefers to beat broken video games. His most recent success burned him out, so a clerk suggests that he play a good video game. Rakuro signs up for the hottest game on the market, Shangri-La Frontier. He uses the name Sunraku and begins the game on hard mode by selling his gear for an early money gain while keeping a bird mask.
In more recent times, Sunraku and his friends go to sea. Stude is a unique NPC who can accept the quest leading Sunraku to Ctarnidd of the Abyss, one of the Seven Colossi. Their goal is to defeat Ctarnidd and progress the in-game story. Getting to Ctarnidd may prove as challenging as the fight itself. Thank goodness they have a pirate crew on their side.
