Have you all been enjoying the second season of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime? Well, don’t forget that we have three full cours worth of slime isekai coming this year. After the first half of season two concludes, we’ll be moving right into the comedy spinoff The Slime Diaries, which will premiere on April 6th.

A manga spinoff featuring art by Shiba from the main light novel, The Slime Diaries has been running in Monthly Shonen Sirius starting in March 2018. It’s being released in English by Kodansha USA, which has released four volumes as of November 2020.
As for the anime, this is a pure comedy spinoff that will just share daily happenings and mishaps in the Jura Tempest Federation and will not advance the main story in any real way. Studio 8-Bit is continuing to produce the animation with Yuji Ikuhara serving as director. Character designs are being provided by Risa Takai and Atsushi Irie, while R.O.N will compose the background music. The series was originally supposed to air in January 2021 but was delayed.
While I haven’t actually started watching the second season of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime yet (it’s on my list of things to do, I promise!); I am definitely looking forward to this silly spinoff series. One anime opinion that I feel strongly about when it comes to this series is that some of its best moments are when the series is leaning into the concept and doing its best to make the audience laugh.
Sometimes it’s a little heavy-handed (such as when Rimuru gets a little too comfy with the elf women in the bar back in season one), but for the most part, the series is very good-natured with its ribbing. Even the OVAs released between the two seasons had great comedy moments, including the “invention” of butt sumo.
