Anime production studio Silver Link has proven that they’re all too familiar with the world of fantasy action series. From older series like Chaos Dragon: Sekiryuu Seneki and Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody to more recent releases like BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense and Nakanohito Genome, the prolific anime studio has had plenty of experience dishing out engaging tales of magical warfare and intense anime action. That streak is set to keep rolling with one of their newly announced projects, the television anime Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World.
Based on the light novel series Kimi to Boku no Saigo no Senjō, Arui wa Sekai ga Hajimaru Seisen by Kei Sazane and Ao Nekonabe, Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World is a story of a war between a realm of technology and a realm of magic. Yen Press publishes the light novels, as well as their manga adaptation, in English, and describes the story as follows:
A great war has raged for years between the scientifically advanced Empire and Nebulis, the realm of magical girls — until the youngest knight ever to receive the title of the Empire’s strongest meets the princess of the rival nation. Though they are sworn enemies, the knight is taken by her beauty and dignity, and the princess is moved by his strength and way of life. Will the fighting between them ever be allowed to end?
The anime is being directed by Shin Oonuma and Mirai Minato. Oonuma previously worked on BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense., ef: a tale of memories, Dusk maiden of Amnesia, and WATAMOTE, while the latter previously worked on BOFURI, Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya, Masamune-kun’s Revenge, and Miss caretaker of Sunohara-sou. Series script supervision on Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World is being handled by Kento Shimoyama, who previously worked on Death March to The Parallel World Rhapsody, Good Luck Girl!, Servant × Service, and The Ones Within. Kaori Sato, previously a staff member on BOFURI, Dusk maiden of Amnesia, Masamune-kun’s Revenge, and Shomin Sample, is the character designer and chief animation director.
Kadokawa originally published the first light novel volume of Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World in Japan back in May of 2016. The manga adaptation was launched two years later in Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine, with the third volume of the manga having shipped in Japan last December. The ninth volume of the light novel, meanwhile, is scheduled to come out this month in Japan. In America, Yen Press has released the first two volumes of the light novel.
