Well, this seems pretty shocking.
On Tuesday, The Tokyo Public Prosecutors Office filed a summary indictment against Rurouni Kenshin manga creator Nobuhiro Watsuki (real name for possession of DVDs filled with child pornography. The Tokyo Summary Court also ordered him to pay a fine of 200,000 yen (around US$1,900) on the same day.
In Japan, possession of child pornography can lead to imprisonment to a year, a fine up to 1 million yen, or it can be both.
Based on the statement released by the Public Prosecutors Office, the manga artist possessed a lot of DVDs which contain videos of nude pre-teen girls as well as other related materials last October. Authorities searched his home as part of a different investigation which linked to his DVD purchases.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Police found the said items in his own office in Tokyo.
Local authorizes charged Watsuki last November for possessing porn videos that date back July 2015. Watsuki said in his disposition that he “liked girls in late elementary school to around second year of middle school.”
Japanese publisher Shueisha announced last year that the manga series under the Rurouni Kenshin franchise titled Rurouni Kenshin: Hokkaido Arc (Rurouni Kenshin, Meiji Kenkaku Romantan: Hokkaido-hen) was going on hiatus after the police filed charges against Watsuki.
