The Anarchy sisters are making an unexpected return! Studio Trigger, co-founded by Hiroyuki Imaishi, the creator of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, has secured the rights to the series. The new series is appropriately titled New Panty and Stocking. It’s still unclear whether this series will act as a reboot or continue the plot that began in 2010. It’s also unknown when this new series will air. Studio Trigger did unveil a promotional video for it, though.
Trigger also shared the New Panty and Stocking promotional video on their official Twitter page. They also shared a key visual for the new series that fits its tone.
Raising Anarchy
For those new to Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, the premise is funny and ecchi. New Panty and Stocking will likely follow the same premise. Panty and Stocking are angels who get kicked out of Heaven for immoral behavior. They’re condemned to Daten City, a place that borders between Heaven and Hell. The name refers to their situation, datenshi (fallen angel).
Heaven tasks the Anarchy sisters with eliminating Ghosts, dangerous beings that threaten the sisters. Panty would rather sleep with 1000 men on Earth than return to Heaven, and Stocking would rather eat sweets. Stocking takes her job more seriously than Panty, but sugar is still sweet. However, eliminating Ghosts earns Heaven Coins, which lets them pay their way back into Heaven.
They’re given aid by Garterbelt (Koji Ishii), a reverend interested in boys on the younger side, and Brief (Hiroyuki Yoshino), a skilled ghost hunter who is often mocked as “Geekboy.”
Besides the Ghosts and their own vices, Daten City has its own native enemies. Corset (Shigeru Chiba), the mayor, and his two fake daughters, Scanty (Yuka Komatsu) and Kneesocks (Ayumi Fujimura), are demons. They’re creating the Ghosts as only one step of their plan.
New Panty and Stocking Origins
Hiroyuki Imaishi created Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt while working at studio Gainax. Hiroyuki and the other talented creators took some well-earned vacation after finishing Gurren Lagann. Later, they tossed out ideas for a new show over drinks. This series was developed by some drunk creators who enjoyed adult animations.
The series aired from October 1st, 2010, to December 24th, 2010, in thirteen episodes and a special. TAGRO worked on a manga adaptation between August 4th, 2010, and June 4th, 2011. Kadokawa published the series in one volume in the Kadokawa Comics Ace imprint and the Young Ace magazine.
The J-List shop has a recommendation for those looking to buy a gunner with the face of an angel. The DP-12 1/6 Figure Echeveria Lantern from the Girls’ Frontline section is now available for pre-order.
