Anime collaborations are pretty standard nowadays. Your favorite series can get-tie ins with food companies, mobile games, shoes, clothing, and even sanitary pad brands, and we embrace anime getting a little more mainstream with every collaboration. Now, a collaboration between Coach and Michael B. Jordan kicks things up a notch and brings Naruto to the accessory brand to celebrate the series’ 20th anniversary with the most pricy anime accessories this side of Akihabara. This limited-time collection has something for everyone, whether it’s shoes, jackets, bags, t-shirts, and even pants. Sadly, the theming is pretty minimal, with the major designs mostly focusing on Itachi’s Mangekyō Sharingan and Naruto’s Senjutsu Mode eyes. Though there are shirts with the Three Legendary Sannin and Naruto and Sasuke available if you feel like paying $95 dollars for a t-shirt.
However, the standout items in this collection happen to be the denim jackets. They might look ordinary from the front, but the backs showcase some beautiful embroidery of Naruto and Itachi. And at $795 dollars apiece, they’ll definitely be the most expensive anime merchandise you own.
Despite the items being out of most fan’s price ranges, I think it’s great that Michael B. Jordan has used his love of anime to create high-quality, high-end merch for fans to look forward to. It makes me look forward to what other collaborations he might be a part of (something Vegeta-centric perhaps?), and also makes me wonder what other celebrities are into anime. Does Keanu Reeves like the philosophical nature of Evangelion? Is Billie Eilish into the works of Junji Ito? Does Kanye West relate to Saint Young Men? The possibilities are endless, really. For those interested in the rest of Michael B. Jordan’s collab, you can find the items talked about here and more on the Coach website.
