After seven years, Shinichi Fukuda’s My Dress-Up Darling manga is ending. Square Enix’s Young Gangan began serializing the much-loved otaku culture/romance manga in January 2018. The manga currently boasts fourteen compilation volumes and over eleven million in-circulation copies. The announcement of the manga’s conclusion came via Fukuda-sensei’s X. The announcement, which included a Marin illustration, read:
Today’s issue of Young Gangan features chapter 114 of My Dress-Up Darling. The next chapter will be the final one. Thank you for your support!

My Dress-Up Darling Manga Synopsis and Info
Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru (その着せ替え人形は恋をする) follows the high school duo of Marin Kitagawa and Gojo Wakana. Gojo, orphaned in early childhood and raised by his grandfather, is a gentle giant with many self-esteem issues. These issues stem from his childhood friend ostracizing him for his love and dedication to Hina Dolls. Following his grandfather’s footsteps, Gojo is working toward becoming a kashira-shi (doll-head maker). But when one of the school’s idols, Marin Kitagawa, discovers that Gojo is a proficient tailor, she ropes him into her cosplaying hobby. While Marin has the looks and dedication to cosplay her favorite ero-characters, she lacks the skill to perfect their costumes. Together, the two venture into the world of cosplay, and a friendship (and more) begins to bloom.
CloverWorks produced a 12-episode anime adaptation that aired during the Winter 2022 season. It has announced a follow-up season, which will premiere this year. The manga also received a live-action TV drama adaptation, plus a spin-off manga, Bisque Doll de Chu♡, written by Shinichi Fukuda with art by Choboraunyopomi.

Why the Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru Manga Was So Popular
One must lament Gen Z’s luck. Most will never own a house, eggs cost more than minimum wage, and aliens will invade before No Game No Life season 2 happens. But hand-holding and awkward flirting representing “PEAK ROMANCE” is probably the most insulting part of their existence. An overwhelming amount of manga and anime claim to showcase “romance” or “healthy relationships,” yet they often lack real substance. In contrast, the My Dress-Up Darling manga deserves the title of PEAK ROMANCE. The manga gave fans one of the best depictions of what a faithful, healthy, and supportive friendship (and affection) looks like. It also included topics like social isolation and how sexuality plays into attraction and romance.
It also helped the My Dress-Up Darling manga (and anime) that its main heroine is a lovable, kawaii, bombshell blonde otaku gyaru. Whether you want to protect or lewd her, Marin is the kind of protagonist who checks all the boxes. And speaking of protecting and lewding Marin Kitagawa, have you checked out our My Dress-Up Darling stockpile? We have everything from JAV cosplay DVDs to figures like the Good Smile Company Shizuku Kuroe: Cosplay by Marin 1/6 Figure. The Marin Kitagawa Liz figure by Alter is also available as a preorder.
