It’s been about a year since we were first given a look at the new season of Masamune-kun’s Revenge and about six years since the first season came to an end, but the wait to see more of the title character carry out his plans of vengeance is almost at an end. The new season is set to premiere sometime in July 2023, but we have a cute trailer to tide us over until then.
Silver Link must have kept the promotional home page and official Twitter page going for those six years just in case they returned to the series since both are active and ready to dispense series information to fans and potential viewers. They have also released Key Visuals for the upcoming season titled Masamune-kun’s Revenge R that can be used as beautiful background images.
Revenge Is a Dish Best Served During Dinner
Masamune-kun’s Revenge is an apt title as the plot revolves around Masamune Makabe (voiced by Natsuki Hanae) getting even with a girl who cruelly rejected him and gave him an ugly nickname that scarred him for years to come. When they were much younger, Masamune and Aki Adagaki (voiced by Ayaka Ohashi) were childhood friends. He was chubby when he was younger and was often the subject of ridicule, but Aki didn’t seem to mind it. That was until Masamune confessed to her when she brutally stepped on his feelings and nicknamed him “Pig’s Feet” to further crush his spirit. A rejection was okay, but she was extra mean, and the nickname wasn’t strictly necessary.
Eight years later, Masamune has made a return. He left his hometown, changed his family name with his grandfather’s assistance, lost weight, and became a handsome looker. His goal upon his hometown comeback is to make Aki, who had also gained an ugly nickname, “Cruel Princess,” for her overt hatred of men, fall in love with him so he can cruelly reject her just as she had done to him years prior. His “Dead or Love Plan” will unfold, and past grievances will be addressed.
Masamune-kun’s Revenge Origins
Masamune-kun began his path of vengeance in the popular manga series written by Hazuki Takeoka and illustrated by Tiv. Ichijinsha published the series from October 27th, 2012, to June 27th, 2018, in eleven volumes in the Monthly Comic Rex magazine. There are several spin-off manga series and a light novel for fans to read.
Silver Link adapted the series to anime format for one season before this in twelve episodes and an OVA that aired between January 5th, 2017, and March 23rd, 2017.
