LLENN, Pitohui, Fukaziroh, and many other trigger-happy gamers again take to the battlefield. In the wake of Sword Art Online’s death game incident, a VR gamer enters her own battlefield with an avatar that eases her height woes. LLENN and her friends will be loading new rounds when Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online Season 2 premieres sometime in October 2024.
Reki Kawahara self-published the original Sword Art Online between 2002 and 2008. ASCII Media Works picked up the rights and hired the artist abec to adapt the series to a light novel format. Dengeki Bunko published 28 volumes afterward. A-1 Pictures’s anime adaptation premiered on July 8th, 2012.
Keiichi Sigsawa and Kouhaku Kuroboshi released the Sword Art Online Alternative Gun Gale Online spinoff light novel series on December 10th, 2014. Dengeki Bunko has published thirteen volumes since. 3Hz’s anime adaptation premiered on April 8th, 2018.
Three of our gunmen are as follows:
- Karen Kohiruimaki / LLENN — Tomori Kusunoki (Makima from Chainsaw Man). An avid VR gamer with a height complex begins playing Gun Gale Online so she can use a short avatar.
- Miyu Shinohara / Fukaziroh — Chinatsu Akasaki (Felt from Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World-). Karen’s offline friend and fellow gamer typically plays ALfheim Online but will jump into GGO to compete in tournaments.
- Elsa Kanzaki / Pitohui — Youko Hikasa (Freya from Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Girls in a Dungeon?). LLENN’s first friend in GGO. She’s a gun maniac and a skilled marksman.

A New Squad Jam Awaits in Sword Art Online Alternative Gun Gale Online
Karen Kohiruimaki has a terrible complex about her above-average height. The Sword Art Online incident that saw 10,000 people trapped inside the game never deterred her from playing VR games herself. Through these games, she can try to find a height that works for her. Her friend Miyu helped set up a new account, but ALO didn’t work for her. The Sylph class was far too tall for her. Karen jumped from game to game until she came across Gun Gale Online and the short avatar it gave her.
Karen — as LLENN — met Pitohui and agreed to join the first Squad Jam tournament. The two became fast friends while hunting monsters, so they worked well as a team. However, Pitohui suggested that she team up with a man named M. They won the first Squad Jam, but the second would prove far harder. LLENN teamed with Miyo under her Fukaziroh avatar to face Pitohui and M. They won the battle, but another team defeated LLENN and Fukaziroh. Karen meets Pitohui offline and discovers that she’s the famous singer Elsa.
