Sad news out of the Weekly Shonen Jump camp as it’s been announced via all of their official social media channels that the hit manga series Jujutsu Kaisen will go on an indefinite hiatus starting on June 21st because of the author’s poor health.
Jujutsu Kaisen will be taking a break, but will be back soon. We wish Gege Akutami a restful time off and look forward to the next chapter! https://t.co/dDbsVzcyaU

In the announcement, author Gege Akutami made it explicitly clear that their mental health is perfectly fine and that the illness is not a serious matter. They also apologized for the wait for new chapters and said that the break should only take about a month, but nothing was set in stone regarding that.
This is obviously a bummer for fans of the franchise, but given the insane work schedules that manga authors have to work, it’s totally understandable for their bodies to break down every once in a while and require rest and relaxation to get back into working shape. Let’s hope that Akutami’s break is both restful and relaxing so that they can get back to 100% soon.
Gege Akutami first launched the Jujutsu Kaisen series in March 2018 within the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump. The series has been collected in sixteen volumes in Japanese and ten volumes in English as of June 2021. In the shonen action series, the main character is a high school student named Yuji who, after a bizarre incident involving his school’s occult club and a cursed item, ends up having to join the secret Jujutsu Sorcerers organization. The series is currently one of the best-selling manga of all time with over 50 million copies in circulation (including digital copies).
The 24-episode anime adaptation began airing/streaming in October 2020 and went on to become one of the most popular series of the year, even going so far as to win the Anime of the Year award at the 2021 Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
