The anime adaptation of Ishura has been announced, giving fans of the original light novel and manga a reason to rejoice. Rather than tease people with key art or a short teaser, the first trailer is filled with action scenes that perfectly set the stage for the series. Yuno, the Distant Talon, is shown in her everyday life. Then, as everything starts crumbling down around her, Soujiro, the Willow-Sword, appears to save her and walks off like the champ he is.
Kadokawa has set up an official Twitter account and home page to share further information about the series, such as the key visual art below.
They also posted an illustration by the artist who drew the light novel version of Ishura.
The world of Ishura found itself in an upheaval of sorts. An unknown hero slew the Demon King, and the strongest beings in the world, those who can slaughter whole armies, have filled the power vacuum. The sixteen most powerful warriors gathered to fight it out and prove they were the “One True Hero.” This sets the stage for the New Demon King War, a battle that will shake the entire world.
The trailer put marked emphasis on Yuno, known as the Distant Talon. Both she and her best friend Lucellus were attacked by a machine demon from the Great Labyrinth. Yuno was saved from a similar fate by Soujiro the Willow-Sword, whose real name is Soujiro Yagyu. This master swordsman, also known as “the last Yagyu,” might be from an entirely different world.
Soujiro can cut down most anything from a distance and did just that to save Yuno. Despite keeping her life, the young woman decided to take revenge and began to travel with Soujiro.
Ishura began as a light novel series written by Keiso. The novel was posted online to Kakuyomu and Shousetsuka ni Narou starting on June 30th, 2017. ASCII Media Works then would pick it up for their Dengeki no Shin Bungei imprint on September 17th, 2019, with new illustrations by Kureta. The light novel currently has six volumes for fans to pick up and read.
Kodansha would be the next big company to eye Ishura. On March 5th, 2021, they adapted the series to manga, with the artist Meguri taking up the task of illustrating the incredible cast of characters. There are currently two manga volumes for fans to enjoy.
