Sad news for Hatsune Miku fans!
In an announcement posted to the official MikuExpo2020 website on Tuesday, September 29th, it was announced that this year’s North American and Canadian tour (which had already been postponed twice) will be canceled all together with fans being able to request refunds on their tickets.
In the announcement, Crypton Future Media noted that they hoped that the virus would be contained in time for them to hold the events, but circumstances would not allow that. To quote them directly:
Unfortunately, given the current trajectory of the disease in North America and worldwide, it has become more and more clear that the conditions to hold the event while guaranteeing the health and safety of our fans and crews will very likely not be met within the next year. After much consideration, it is with heavy hearts that we have made the decision to cancel MIKU EXPO 2020 USA & Canada. For inquiries on ticket refunds, please contact your ticket vendor.
This is quite the heavy blow for fans who desperately needed to get their Vocaloid fix this year, but it’s an understandable decision given how rampant and deadly COVID-19 has proven to be over the last few months. The bright side is that the staff behind MikuExpo2020 also stated that they are looking into new and different ways to interact with fans, so perhaps a virtual/online concert for the eternally young Hatsune Miku isn’t out of the realm of possibility?
