Studio Gaina has released a full trailer for the newest entry in the Grendizer series. Grendizer U tells the familiar tale of humans using powerful alien technology to combat an invading force. This is a legendary series for a reason, and fans will see why when it premieres sometime in 2024. Until then, let’s watch giant robots assemble to go to war in the new trailer.
The great Go Nagai wrote and illustrated his Grendizer manga between October 1975 and March 1977. Multiple adaptations of this series have been around, and Grendizer U is just the latest one.
Three of our epic mecha heroes are as follows:
- Duke Fleed / Daisuke Umon — Miyu Irino (Astral and Numbers 96 from Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal). An amnesiac who survived Vega’s assault on his planet. Fate led him and Grendizer to Earth.
- Koji Kabuto — Hiro Shimono (Zenitsu Agatsuma from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba). The grandson of a brilliant scientist. He carries on a legacy of science and the fight for justice.
- Sayaka Yumi — Sumire Uesaka (Lum from Urusei Yatsura). Koji’s girlfriend who works as an agent for his company, and an ally in battle.
Gaina has set up home pages in English and Japanese plus English and Japanese Twitter (X) pages to promote Grendizer U. Additional series information and the Key Visuals can be found there.
Grendizer U Stands Tall
Grendizer U follows an alien nobleman as he escapes a hostile invasion of his home planet. Duke Fleed and the powerful mech Grendizer find their way to Earth, though Duke loses his memories during the escape. However, he finds good friends and a peaceful time. Koji, Sayaka (his girlfriend), and Hikaru become fond of the newly-dubbed Daisuke Umon. They’re unaware of his past, but Koji firmly trusts him. He even lets the stranger in on his secret battle for justice.
The evil forces of Vega follow Duke to Earth and begin their invasion. Their presence triggers Duke’s memories, and Grendizer likewise makes its reappearance. Duke, Koji, and their friends start Earth’s defense against Vega. Their odds of success are already low because Vega’s weaponry far outpaces Earth’s own forces. Koji has his own technology, so it’s not like Grendizer won’t have company on the battlefield.
