Two powerful yakuza families have set aside their differences and signed a truce. The truce terms require the young heirs to marry to cement their union. However, the sheltered princess of one family wants nothing to do with it. We’ll see how their engagement proceeds when Yakuza Fiancé (Raise wa Tanin ga Ii / An Outsider is Better in the Afterlife) premieres sometime in October 2024.
Asuka Konishi released the original Yakuza Fiancé manga on August 25th, 2017. Kodansha has published eight volumes in Monthly Afternoon.
The newly-engaged couple is as follows:
- Yoshino Somei — Hitomi Ueda (Michiko Tendou in Chainsaw Man). The heir to Osaka’s Somei Group who prefers an ordinary life to one filled with crime.
- Kirishima Miyama — Akira Ishida (Athrun Zala from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED). The heir to Kanto’s Miyama Group, whose kind smile hides a vicious personality.
Studio Deen has maintained a home page, a YouTube channel, and a Twitter (X) page to promote Yakuza Fiancé. You can find more information about the series and the key visuals there. This couple certainly stands out.
The Odd Couple of Yakuza Fiancé
The Somei Group is the Kansai region’s largest yakuza organization. They have recently engaged in peace talks with the Miyama Group, Kanto’s largest yakuza organization. The terms of this treaty declare that the leaders’ grandchildren must marry to finalize the agreement. Yoshino Somei, the sheltered princess of the Somei Group, is against this marriage. Her attempts to annul the union fail, and she unwillingly moves to Tokyo to be with her new fiancé.
Kirishima Miyama is the handsome and charismatic heir to the Miyama Group. Yoshino is surprised to learn how popular he is at school. Her connection to him leads to a round of bullying from his fans. She discovers Kirishima’s true nature, that of a vicious criminal who delights in violence. It isn’t until Yoshino reveals her own impressive temper and strength of will that he comes to care about her.
