I’ve heard of otaku lining up for some strange things in the past but this one is totally new for me!
Voice actress Aoi Yuki has been voice acting in anime since 2003 and, as you can imagine, as voiced some pretty major roles over the last two decades including Madoka Kaname (Madoka Magica). She’s become so popular that she’s already been confirmed for seven different roles in 2020 already! Ms. Yuki is more than just a voice actor though, she’s also a talented anisong singer with her most recent single titled “Unbreakable” being attached to the Infinite Dendrogram anime which is airing this season.
As you can tell by the warning at the start of the music video, this isn’t a happy ballad about puppies and rainbows. This is some hardcore break stuff pop music (not that the singer condones that kind of behavior naturally). To celebrate the physical release of the single, the multi-talented performer put on a mini-concert in the Ikebukuro neighborhood of Tokyo recently before having a very special meet and greet with fans. This wasn’t one of those simple handshake events though, this event was far more memorable than that.

Yes, you’re seeing that correctly. That would be Aoi Yuki wielding a harisen against a fan’s backside. And this hapless fellow wasn’t the only one… literally, hundreds of eager fans lined up to willingly be spanked by the performer in an event that will certainly live on in the lucky fans’ memories for many years to come.
In total, there were 200 fans ready to be whacked where their body splits. Like I mentioned at the beginning of the article, this is the first I’ve heard of something like this for anime fans but perhaps you’ve heard of something even stranger in Japan or your own country of residence?
