For fans of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba who are sticking with the anime, the story is only just starting to ramp up as the upcoming anime movie dives into one of the most eventful arcs of the series. When it comes to the currently running manga that said anime is based on, though, the gears are in an entirely different position, as the supernatural samurai story heads towards a grand finale. That finale may be arriving sooner than some fans anticipated, as the latest issues of Weekly Shonen Jump announced that the May 11th chapter of the manga marks the “climax” of the series.
The announcement was made in the recent combined release of issues 21 and 22 of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The magazine reveals that the 23rd issue will include a new chapter of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga in which the story will reach it’s “climax.” The upcoming chapter will also feature a special opening color page.
The Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga was originally launched by author Koyoharu Gotouge in Weekly Shonen Jump back in February of 2016. Parent company Shueisha also releases the series in compiled volumes, and plans to ship volume 20 of the manga on May 13th. The 21st and 22nd issues of Weekly Shonen Jump also revealed that special version of volumes 20, 21, 22, and 23 will be available for purchase. These special releases will bundle in exclusive merchandise and bonuses.
While Shueisha’s MANGA Plus online service publishes Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba digitally in English, Viz Media is responsible for publishing the manga in English in print. The company describes the story of the series as follows:
Since ancient times, rumors have abounded of man-eating demons lurking in the woods. Because of this, the local townsfolk never venture outside at night. Legend has it that a demon slayer also roams the night, hunting down these bloodthirsty demons. For young Tanjiro, these rumors are soon to become his harsh reality…
Ever since the death of his father, Tanjiro has taken it upon himself to support his family. Although their lives may be hardened by tragedy, they’ve found happiness. But that ephemeral warmth is shattered one day when Tanjiro finds his family slaughtered and the lone survivor, his sister Nezuko, turned into a demon. To his surprise, however, Nezuko still shows signs of human emotion and thought… Thus begins Tanjiro’s request to fight demons and turn his sister human again.
