Remember back in September when we reported on the Date A Live spinoff series Date A Bullet getting an anime adaptation? Well, now we can report that the main series will return for a fourth anime season as well! According to an update on the official website, a fourth season is currently in production, but sadly no other details were revealed beside the official title which is Date A Live IV.
The Date A Live franchise launched as a light novel series in 2011, written by Kōshi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako. To date, it has twenty volumes published, with the most recent shipping in Japan back in March 2019. In 2013, the series received its first TV anime adaptation with animation produced by AIC Plus+. Since that time it has received a second season (with animation produced by Production IMS) in April 2014, an animated movie in August 2015, and a third television anime (with animation produced by J.C. Staff) in January 2019. The original light novel series has yet to be licensed for an official English release, though the anime adaptations are currently available on Crunchyroll and Funimation.
Crunchyroll describes the story as:
Ordinary high school boy Shido discovers a mysterious girl at ground zero of a recent spacequake. Shido learns, through his sister Kotori, that the girl is one of the Spirits: mystical creatures responsible for the spacequakes. Shido is recruited to help “seal” the sprits and end their threat to mankind. There’s just one catch: the only way to seal a spirit — is to make her fall in love with you.
