Read manga online or on your device without ads or the threat of the po-po busting you for illegal downloads! Crunchyroll Manga — the new iOS, Android, and web app — launched this month and includes over a hundred titles from the likes of Square Enix, VIZ Media, and Yen Press.
Titles popular with J-List fans and available on Crunchyroll Manga include My Dress-Up Darling, Lycoris Recoil, Jujutsu Kaisen, Spy X Family, and The Apothecary Diaries. Titles from digital-only publishers COMPASS and AlphaPolis are also available. We expect more publishers to make their titles available on the app.
Manga Sales and the Young Comic Buyer
ICv2 CEO Milton Griepp (in a recent ICv2 whitepaper) called manga a “force” and noted that manga readership, especially among younger readers, has boomed in the last fifteen years. The addition of Crunchyroll Manga means a new reading option for manga lovers in an already healthy and hale hobby space.
Whether Sony Group Corporation, which owns Crunchyroll, will devour the manga and anime industries remains to be seen.
Crunchyroll Manga: Rollout and Language Support
Crunchyroll Manga is currently only available in the US and Canada. Titles are available exclusively in English, with more language options planned.
Hard copy manga are unbeatably practical, while digital copies have their own merits, including ease of storage. The add-on service for Crunchyroll subscribers features chapter downloads for offline reading and access to a vast library of titles from multiple publishers, which may be the service’s foremost appeal. While manga collectors will have to look elsewhere to expand their collections, the service is undoubtedly an excellent place to explore new titles and re-read old favorites.
Link-U Group, a Japanese digital manga service developer, powers the Crunchyroll Manga service. You can find out more about Crunchyroll Manga, including subscription prices, on Crunchyroll’s blog.
