An educator attained his dream job of teaching a class. Unfortunately for him, his students easily intimidate him and take advantage of his frailty. Perhaps he’ll have better luck with yokai students. We’ll see how he does in front of a new class when A Terrified Teacher at Ghoul School! (Yokai Gakko no Sensei Hajimemashita!) premieres sometime in October 2024.
Mai Tanaka released the original A Terrified Teacher at Ghoul School! manga series on November 18th, 2014. Square Enix has published sixteen volumes in Monthly G Fantasy.
Our new terrified teacher and a couple of his students are as follows:
- Haruaki Abe — Atsushi Abe (Toma Kamijo from A Certain Magical Index). An easily intimidated teacher with an affinity for sailor uniforms. His given name has a potential reading of “Seimei,” which may or may not be related to his magical abilities.
- Mikoto Sano — Kaito Ishikawa (Karaku from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba). A god of pestilence with a foul attitude who helps Haruaki. His magic can bring misfortune to those around him, like Haruaki.
- Kuniko Utagawa — Hana Ayasaka (Citizen, Student from Mashle: Magic and Muscles). A skeleton spirit whose human form is rather cute.

A Lesson to Learn from A Terrified Teacher at Ghoul School!
Haruaki Abe has long desired to be a teacher. However, he’s easily frightened and has almost no backbone against aggression. His very first class lasted only a few minutes because delinquents managed to chase him off. He spent a year in seclusion in his parents’ house. Haruaki’s next job saw him take a ten-hour boat ride off the coast of Tokyo to Hyakki Academy Island. It’s a place the size of a town with its own convenience stores and restaurants. Besides a love of teaching, an affinity for sailor uniforms drew him to the job.
In reality, Hyakki Academy Island is a home for yokai, and Haruaki is the only human around. Haruaki’s troubles might not be as bad as before. His family runs a shrine, and the principal has some connection with them. Haruaki is the direct descendant of a powerful Shinto priest who could exorcise any yokai he came across, which makes him invulnerable against yokai. For the most part, anyway. His students can still toss him around, but at least they’re kind enough not to kill him.
