CLAMP + Netflix + WIT Studio + Michiko Yokote = Lots of excited anime fans!
If you’ve been watching anime regularly for even a short amount of time, you’re likely familiar with the works of those mentioned above, even if you’re not 100% sure you’ve heard the names. Now they are being brought together for a brand new anime project which will make us all rethink what we know about western fairy tales.
An announcement that hit the internet on Tuesday, June 15th, introduced a new project that will bring together character designs by internationally famous manga circle CLAMP (Code Geass, xxxHolic), animation from WIT Studio (Attack on Titan, Ancient Magus’ Bride, this season’s Vivy – Flourite Eye’s Song –), and scripts written by Michiko Yokote (Shirobako, xxxHolic, Patlabor, and oh so many others). It will hit Netflix at an undisclosed later date. The main theme for the project will feature a new take on the Brothers Grimm fairy tales that we’re already familiar with, but throw in elements of suspense and horror.
It would be a bit hyperbolic to call this a dream project, but it’s also not inappropriate to be excited. CLAMP character designs can be a bit of an acquired taste if you’re not used to them but there’s no denying that they are a popular and talented group. Reuniting them with xxxHolic writer Michiko Yokote and a stellar, rising star studio like WIT Studio — who have really proven themselves able to hang with the best studios out there within the last few years — and you have a project that is worthy of early excitement.
