Being a creative professional is hard no matter what country you’re in, so when you get a “rub” from a respected professional, you thank your lucky stars and hope that the magic lasts more than a few seconds. That’s the situation that manga author Eris Shino finds themselves in at the moment, having been put into the spotlight on Twitter by the man they assist, Tatsuki Fujimoto, the creator of Chainsaw Man.
In a tweet posted to his now-verified account, Fujimoto states that even though the title is R-18, it is still very good and should be supported.
チェンソーマンの背景を手伝ってくれているアシスタントさんの読み切りです。R18ですが面白いので是非よんでみてください。よろしくお願いします。 https://t.co/sgbIgpKXxU

What’s that? R-18? Yep, Fujimoto is going out of his way to promote an adults-only boys-love one-shot drawn by one of his background assistants, which is a pretty classy move on his part. The 37-page one-shot in question is titled “Boku Yori Sukoshi Taiyō ni Chikai” (A Little Closer to the Sun than Me) and was published in PriaL digital BL anthology’s 32nd volume. No official English translation exists, but the issue is available to purchase globally.
As mentioned in the introduction, it’s always awesome when someone who has already “made it” remembers to let down a ladder for someone who is still struggling to climb their way up the mountain. This is so much more than that, though. This is Fujimoto promoting a genre that is about as far from his own as you can get. A genre that is still finding its footing around the world as more people discover the charming side of boys-love stories. Good on him.
And for those who saw Chainsaw Man in the headline and only clicked on this article to read updates about that, we still have no idea when the second season is going to premiere. So yeah, come back soon and we’ll update you about that. Promise.
