I have a confession to make and I feel you and I are close enough for me to share this information about myself… I’ve yet to read the Chainsaw Man manga. I’ve heard tons about it over the last couple of years (I mean, it’s kind of hard to be plugged into this community without hearing something about the series here and there) but I’ve yet to sit down and indulge in this one. This is mainly why I’m so interested in checking out the anime adaptation when it premieres on Crunchyroll starting October 11th.
Obviously, the official Twitter account has read my mind and knows that I feel this way because, earlier this week, they posted a special advanced preview of the first episode titled “Dog and Chainsaw”. While it’s only 15 seconds long, it has only increased my anticipation level going into the series.

Originally a manga created by Tatsuki Fujimoto, the first part of the series debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump in December 2018 and ran until December 2020, when that part of the series concluded. Shortly afterward, a second part was announced which began running in the online magazine Shonen Jump+ in July 2022. The series currently has up to twelve published volumes in Japan as of October 2022 and eleven published volumes in English as of July 2022.
Chainsaw Man‘s anime adaptation was first revealed in December 2020. Studio MAPPA will handle the animation production, with Ryū Nakayama serving as the director with Makoto Nakazono sitting beside him as the chief episode director. The writing will be composed by Hiroshi Seko, while two people will tag-team the character designs, Kazutaka Sugiyama (characters) and Kiyotaka Oshiyama (devils).
As mentioned, Crunchyroll will simulcast the series starting on October 11th in the following regions: North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS. The official story synopsis reads as follows:
Denji is a teenage boy living with a Chainsaw Devil named Pochita. Due to the debt his father left behind, he has been living a rock-bottom life while repaying his debt by harvesting devil corpses with Pochita.
One day, Denji is betrayed and killed. As his consciousness fades, he makes a contract with Pochita and gets revived as “Chainsaw Man” — a man with a devil’s heart.
