Get ready for another original “pretty boys doing pretty sports” anime with this fifteen-second promotional video for the upcoming Noitamina series, Bakuten!! Note the use of double exclamation points in the title, so be sure to always say that with the proper level of hype and excitement!
Set to premiere on April 8th in the Noitamina block, Bakuten!! features animation from studio Zexcs (who are making their grand return to the animation block after 2016’s The Great Passage) and has Toshimasa Kuroyanagi (The Great Passage, Say “I love you”) as the director working off scripts written by Toshizo Nemoto. Interestingly, the original character designs are being provided by the author of the series My Little Monster, Robico, which will then be adapted for the anime by Yuki Shibata.
As previously mentioned, this series falls in the “pretty boys doing pretty sports” genre that has gained steady popularity since Yuri!!! on Ice broke the mold a few years ago. The main character is named Shotaro Futaba, and the story follows him and the other members of their high school’s rhythmic gymnastics club.

Despite not knowing a lot about the series, I’m still looking forward to sampling this once it premieres in April. “Pretty boys doing pretty sports” is a genre that I’ve grown quite attached to over the last few years, with the most recent one I’ve checked out being Gymnastics Samurai (which was an underrated gem, by the way). With any luck at all, this series will turn out as good (or possibly even better) as some of its predecessors.
